Vikram kuamr asked:
The moment you reach seniority, you are advised by your doctor to get full rest. When you are told to do this, it implies that you need to retire from your work. Most of the senior citizens within the United States choose to retire in nursing homes during retirement. When you think about a retirement home, the first image that will probably come into your mind is an old man or an old woman struggling across the courtyard. Nick Johnson asked:
There are many different signs of elder abuse, and when looking for them it is very important to remember that not all elder abuse is physical. There are mental and emotional abuse issues that must be considered as well in order to protect elderly people against abuse and nursing home neglect.
Naturally, those that care for elderly people in nursing homes and other facilities are supposed to actually take care of these people, which means making sure to meet their basic needs and see that no harm comes to them. This is becoming more and more difficult, however, as the population ages and the ratio of elderly people to caregivers becomes larger. Despite these changes, however, there is no excuse for elder abuse or nursing home neglect.
Signs of elder abuse include obvious concerns such as cuts and bruises, especially if these things are repeated. When an injury continues to happen, it becomes suspicious, and rushing out and calling an elder abuse lawyer because an elderly relative has a cut or bruise is certainly not necessary.
Accidents of the slip-and-fall variety happen even in the best-run of nursing homes and elder care facilities. If elder abuse or nursing home neglect is taking place, these kinds of injuries will happen on a consistent basis, and they will be explained away with very tired excuses that are repetitious.
In addition, the excuses might not always match from one worker to the other, and a worker or workers may even be caught in a lie. These kinds of problems, however, are not the only symptoms of elder abuse, nor are they the only reasons that one should consider hiring a nursing home abuse lawyer.
Some elder abuse comes from mental and emotional mistreatment. Care workers that do not care are the chief cause of this type of issue. These individuals often ignore complaints and opinions, and they also often say hurtful things to the elderly people that they are supposed to be concerned about.
A person can only take so much of that before it becomes very harmful to his or her self-esteem. Issues of worth and value are often a concern for elderly people as it is, since they may not feel as though they have a lot to offer society any longer. A nursing home negligence attorney can help recover damages for the wronged party when there are signs of nursing home abuse or neglect.

I heard with the new stimulus bill, that anyone who has to quit work to care for an elderly parent can draw up to 20 weeks unemployment. I know that usually if you voluntarily quit your job you cannot draw unemployment. Not only am I having to quit my job, I’m having to relocate from Virginia to Florida. No regrets though, it’s my mama. Just wondering if anyone else heard about this? 20 weeks of unemployment compensation would be a blessing.

Abhishek Agarwal asked:
Ever heard of the phrase “The 200 pound gorilla in the room”? This is a phrase referring to some topic which is at the top of everyone’s mind, but no one talks about it. Everyone knows that the gorilla is here, but no one wants to talk about this and get the gorilla upset.
Whenever you spend time with an elderly person, there is a gorilla in the room. This topic can be perfectly associated with old people, but a topic that not many dare to cross, maybe because they find it rather upsetting, or maybe they just don’t know how to say it. But this is a topic which dominates your elderly parents’ minds practically every single day. The gorilla in the room refers to death and the life-ending matters that are pending in every elderly person’s life.
As your elderly parents’ primary caregiver, you ought to be aware of how much importance this topic is to your parents. In case you have lost a parent, the spouse has greater meaning and awareness of the issue. However, there are some very good reason to avoid talking about life ending issues and impending death with your senior citizen. This is because there are plenty of final issues that must be decided upon before the time arrives. They include
> Do not give any advance document directive decisions to the end of life medical personnel.
> The conditions of the will.
> Any wishes that the elderly person may have about his or her funeral plans.
> A brief review of the insurance and financial documents that the person with the power of attorney or the Will’s executor will resolve.
In order to talk about the end of life issues which are related to death with your elderly parents, you must be emotionally stable to withstand it. Most of us bury these ominous thoughts in a trick and we just like to think that we may not go through this. Perhaps we do that because we are comfortable thinking about life itself, and have a strong feeling of discomfort while discussing afterlife and other religious ideas.
To be mentally prepared to care for your parents and be an effective counsellor to your aging parent, you must ensure that you have enough peace and resolution regarding the topic. If this means you need to confront your anxieties about religion, you must accept it as a part of being an adult because your dependants including your children as well as your aging parents may look up to you for answers related to that area. It may take some courage on your part, but it is important that you face these issues so that you can help you aging parents do the same.
If you have strong faith in religion and if your aging parents share that opinion, it is probably the right time to discuss afterlife assurances that have been dealt with in your religion. Spend time with your aging parents reading texts about the doctrine of heaven and gain comfort from it. This may bring new hope and peace to your parents because they will realize that leaving this world does not imply the end of their life.
Do not allow the 200 pound gorilla continue its stay. Discuss the issue of death and afterlife with your elderly parents, and handle it with kindness and compassion. By doing so, you will assist your parents in attaining spiritual acceptance and mental peace about the rest of their golden age and the time they have left on earth.

Tyler Moon asked:
You may be overwhelmed by the pressure of caring the older members of your family who require constant care; but you are not alone. There are millions of adults who finds a hard time taking care of older relatives or parents while working and taking care of their children. Sometimes one is pressed down under the dual pressure of taking care of older members and his own needs; but your work is also as important as taking care of the elder people. If you don’t take care of your own responsibilities, you will land nowhere. When that happens you won’t be able to take care of anyone else.
Using home health care is a good option to get the rest and get relief you need while still making sure that the elder people are getting proper care and protection. Don’t feel guilty if you take some time off to take of yourself and your own family, but home health care is a necessity if you want to continue to care for your loved ones in the future. If you are in a dilemma whether to get the services of home health care, consider the following benefits of using home health care:
Your loved ones are taken care of by trained medical staff - Hiring home health care is far safer than hiring strangers to care for your loved ones. Since home health care workers are trained medical professionals, should an emergency arise in your home, these medical professionals can respond properly.
Social interaction - Every people needs social interaction, even the elder people in your home. Hiring home health care workers even if for couple of days, gives your loved ones the chance to talk with and interact with other people, which will help them stay more connected to the world.
Prescription Support - You may be concerned about the elder people in your home, whether they eat nutritiously, when you can’t be there to give them a meal. You may be concerned whether your loved ones take their medications when they need to, in your absence. If you have a home health care staff then you can be sure that your loved ones are having nutritional diet and having their medications at the right time.
Meeting Obligations - If you hire home health care workers, then you don’t have to worry about meeting your other obligations like your professional work and appointments or taking your loved ones to doctor or parks. You can meet your other obligations knowing that your loved ones are being safely driven wherever they need to go.
These are few of the benefits you will get if you hire home health care staffs. Don’t overburden yourself with responsibilities and obligations to your elder people and work; instead consider hiring home elder care services as an alternative to do everything by yourself.
