If I quit my job to care for an elderly parent, can I receive unemployment benefits?

    While this was a wonderful thing to do, it has nothing to do with not being able to work.

    no you cannot get unemployment when you quit your job. Only when they fire you.

    No, you can’t. That is a familial obligation, but isn’t covered by unemployment, which is only available to those who lose their jobs through no fault or choice of their own, and who are willing and able to take a job.
